Default How to reinstall the bearings on the inter CV joint of an axle

We pulled the inter joint apart and 6 round bearings fell out? How do you reinstall it on a 2005 Polaris Sportsman 400? Please help?

welcome to the forum. the cv ***** are not really made to come out. i can't remember for sure, but i think the wheel side cv has the inner C clip that holds thge cv to the shaft and the inner(transmission side) had the ones w/ the little indents in the cup to hold the ballls in place. it's been awhile since i took one apart. either way, if you took it apart because it was clicking, then it is already worn out. imo

Sounds like you need to replace the cv plunging joint assembly. I've done this before and usually the inner cv bearing holder will stay on the drive shaft and the bearings will fall out. Only happens when the joint is already worn as mentioned. OPT

No way in the world would I disagree with the answers above from these 2 members but on my 2 2002 500s I have replaced boots 3 times and the ball bearings always fall out. I slide the boot on and slap on enough grease to hold the bearings in until I reassemble the axle.

bent, i have seen it done before replacing the ***** so it is not impossiable, but for the most part they are worn pretty bad.

Next time I replace a boot I guess I need to buy some extra parts and replace both joint assemblies on the 500s. Never to old to learn something new from you pros.
