Default 05' Scrambler 500 lack of power

Hello, I live in vegas and do most of my riding near vegas usually at about 2000ft. This last week I was up in Duck Creek, Utah, at 8400ft. While up in duck creek, as time went on, the atv ran worse(when we first got there, it was pretty good and before we left, it was awful.

By awful I mean that is the terrain was at all uphill or level, there would be an extreme lack of power, it would seem to just barley have enough power to keep up with a 250cc atv. With the throttle down, it wouldnt solidly run, it would just kinda stutter.

But once i would be on a downhill slope, it would run just as normal.

What could have been causing this? Does it need to be re-jetted or something? I've had it up there before without any problems. Just before we went, we changed the oil and oil filter, filled up the antifreeze, slightly tightened up the chain to suggested tension, and replaced the rear tires.

welcome to the forum. does it run fine again once your back to your normal sea level riding? i would think at that highth it would need to be jetted differnt to make up form the lack of air. the other thing is if it is running better down hill it makes me think the float level isn't letting enough gas in the bowl while riding up hill as well.

Thanks. Oh yeah, i just tried it out today back in town(2000ft) and its back to running perfectly normal, i couldnt seem to find any problems with it, no matter the terrain here.

most likely it would be acting up on any good size hill where the gas would be low in the bowl so it's hard to tell if the higher elevation would be adding to it. if i remember right the thin air makes it run doggy like there is too much air w/ the thin air. some one can correct me if i'm wrong.
