Spark Plugs ...where are they?

I just changed the plug in my '99 scrambler 500. I CAN'T BELIEVE I HAD TO TAKE APART THE WHOLE FRONT END TO GET TO THE PLUG????????
Any shortcuts?? While this machine looked like a stripped down go-kart,
(after 800 sensible miles) I noticed the steerring post rivets are loose, loose tie rod ends & loose steering bushings. Did Polaris post any recalls for this machine? They should??
