riding in water
#1
The other day we went riding on the sandbars at the river. We did alot of riding in the water but nothing deeper than the footrest. Did do alot of splashing though and noticed a little bit of water in the 400 and the 500. not much but there was some. Talking with a friend of mine and he told me that with his brute they suggest changing the fluids in the diffs if you play alot in the water. Just got me thinking if i need to do the same. I have only done oil changes in both machines so far one has 500 mile and the other has 250. I figure i probably need to change all fluid in both but wanted to know of other thing to satch for or do when riding in water/creeks/mud. just want to stay on top of everything.

if your refering to having water in the engine (or any oil soruce) then you need to change it before you ride it and do damage from having water mixed w/ any of the oil's.

you have only "peace of mind" to gain by going through the atv after taking your atv swimming!
grease the a-arms and cv's as well!

Had my 800's to the racks in mud/water constantly and never had any in the diff or tranny. I did, however, change all fluids after Spring riding and just before Winter. Definitely want to check for milky fluid like the others mentioned and change if necessary.

most likely unless you surmerged your bike under water(pretty much water near or over the seat area depending on model) you won't have water inthe engine oil. water can be very harmful in any comb with the oil after a while so it's always good to check your oils. as alot of have done ourselves running in water, we know how deep we can go w/out having water coming near going in to the air box or having it stall while the exhaust is under water. these are the 2 likely causes of ater entering the engine. as for the front end/rear end or tranny, fr the most part itis unlikely just doing as you mentioned that water can get in unless maybe a vent line has come off. but for a quick peace of mind i would check take a few minutes and verify that your oils are all good w/ no water.
