Default 2003 sportsman 700 low voltage

I have within the last week replaced my ducati ignition system with the updated kit. It was a breeze to replace, the instructions were pretty clear except for one hot wire. the wire was on the same plug as the black kill switch wich was not on the original system. So i found a hot wire close by and plugged it in and it fired right up. My problem now is i am only gettting 11.9 volts with lights off and drops to 11.5 when i turn lights on. Any help would be great.

Somewhere it sounds like you don't have the jumper harness that ties in to the new regulator/ rectifier hooked up correctly, sounds like your just running off battery voltage. Reread the instructions, had a few people that did the update themselves get it wrong also! I don't have a set of instructions myself in front of me that I can remember myself! OPT

The harnness and regulator/rectifier had one solid yellow wire and two yellow with red stripe wires. do you think i could swap the two yellow/red wires?

i just did my 600 a few days ago. When I get home I will look at it. I know I had 3 jumper wires in my kit but I only needed 2 of them. One of them was for the balck and red wire wire. I think with the jumper kit the black one reattached and there was a plug in that was previuosly blank that the plug went right into. I can't remember if there was a jumper used for the wires that attach to the voltage regulator or not. I will look tonight when I get home.

I agree that is wasn't clear if it mattered which yellowand red wire was plugged in where. I just plugged them in and everything fired good. Guess I never thought about checking voltage??/

For my kit I only used 2 of the 3 jumper cables. It didn't seem that any were needed for the new voltage regulator because the wires connected up with the new harness.(OPT is this correct?) I did have to use 2 of them for the CDI box and fior the new red an black wire. The jumper I used plugged into the black wire and then into a previously empty red wire connector. I ran my machine last night in the diagnostic mode and it seemed to be maintaining voltage. It would drop a little but then if I revved it a little the voltage returned and seemed to stay contant. at least within .2 or so (14.3 to 14.1).
