Sons Modded Scrambler 50 wont start.

We have had problem for quite some time now. Mostly Carb issues, so it has sat for a few months. I was able to attempt the fix this weekend. I got it all together and it wont start. I pulled the plug and grounded it and that didn't work either. I checked the safety kill teather and it is working properly. I then used a meter and checked the coil voltage coming out. It only showed like 3.3V. I then took the lead coming to the coil off and tested it there. It also showed 3V. So I think the coil is bad. I just don't know what it should have been coming out of the coil to know for sure. Anyone have an opinion on this??

Just from my own personal experience working on these little 2-strokes from 2001 to 2006 until the four strokes replaced them was that the stator is the major culprit. I've cleaned some of them up,(subject to a lot of dirt and mud) and been able to save em,but the majority just start shorting out. I've only had a few plug caps bad(pull the cap and check the bare wire to the head for spark) and maybe I think a couple safety switches(just tie the two wires together to bypass),no cdi modules and honestly can't remember any coils,BUT best to pull the flywheel off and clean the stator and inside the flywheel first and see if this solves the problem! Most dealers will give you the resistance specs on the stator wires and I would check this out before throwing parts at it! Over the years they tried to redirect the air flow into the flywheel and stator area, but it didn't help much! Good luck OPT
