The first paragraph was directed at you (my apologies for not separating the paragraphs... I've edited the post), whereas the second is a general gripe I have about posts I have seen in all of the forums.
I realize that if you say you don't like the SP it doesn't mean that you are calling me stupid. Why would I think that? If I did think that, why would I care? I know that I'm intelligent... that's how I made it through an engineering curriculum in college and why I am a successful Project Engineer for a Fortune 500 company.
I don't take it as a personal insult if someone says they don't like the quad I own... frankly, I don't care whether anyone else in the world likes my quad... I do and that is all that is important. I feel that members of this forum (not necessarily you) that fit into the second paragraph in my previous post ruin forums like this and are the types of people that cause society to frown on ATVers in general.
As far as taking this forum so seriously and my need to get a life... neither is true. I enjoy this forum and enjoy it for what it is - a place to meet, interact, and learn from others that have a common interest (in this case ATVing). As far as my life, in general, what could you possibly know about it, other than the fact that I have and enjoy riding an ATV?
Finally, if you feel the need to be negative, post a forum topic with a representative subject so we can all know to not waste our time reading it, rather than screw around in a valid post where someone is just trying to get a simple question answered.

I have a SP and I can't say enough about it I live in Mississippi and hunt in a brake (very watery and MUDDY wetland) and I don't have a winch and have never needed, or will ever need one. I think that is self explainitory. I have never ridden a grizzly, but the Magizines AND THE PEOPLE I KNOW say the the SP wins, hands down. I need to shut my mouth cause I could start a wild fire... and I am your worst enemy in a wild fire of someone dissing a polaris. HA HA

If it wasn’t for the “looks” the Grizz gets because of its larger motor you couldn’t even use its name in the same sentence with a Sportsman. That big motor has bought it a lot of recognition but it’s not in anywhere near the same class as the SP500, especially an HO. Even the Kodiak has it technologically outclassed. Yamy must have put all their R&D guys on the Raptor after developing the changes to the Kodiak.
Just look at the Griz. Drum brakes with cables that need adjustment and freeze up in the winter. A loud, vibrating air-cooled motor that runs so hot it was burning the hair of riders legs until Yamy put heat shields on it as a “patch” it’s second year out. Three wheel drive in rocks and mud, if you’re lucky. Is it a capable machine? Sure. Would I own one if in could get it cheap? Probably, but it wouldn’t even be my third choice for a trail bike compared to what else is on the market these days, and what’s due to come out.
Yamaha itself is probably the very biggest NOT to buy one. The Griz is old news and they know it. Look for them to come out with something spectacular in the very near future to compete with the 650 Prairie, the SP HO and the rumors of a V-Twin SP. Unless you can get a GREAT deal or like the idea of buying the last of a dying breed I’d buy something else or wait to see what Yamy does to bring the Griz up to the standards of today’s machines. I’m not bashing the Griz, that’s just my opinion.

somebody who talked to his dealer was told that there is work on a new liquid cooled 660 Grizz. It was a pretty reliable source. It would be the Raptor motor so keep your eyes open for it. as of the current quads I'd say go for the SP500 HO. I have Both Yamaha and Polaris. If I ever get another ATV i'll get a SP500 HO, and i've been riding Yamaha since 2nd grade

Until Yamaha can figure out how to develope a 4x4 system that actually works, I wouldn't buy anything from them that is 4x4. I pulled a guy on a Grizzly out of mud hole (right after he had been doggin me for buying a Polaris) that I had been playing in before he came along. Everyone there got a good laugh out of it. He got off camber in a log skidder rut in the mudhole and one wheel just sat in the air spinning. I had a friend with a Yamaha Timberwolf that would do the same thing in really nasty situations. I won't even go into the problems he had with the brakes on that thing, but will tell you they cost him a few broken ribs when they finally went out on him.

I would like to recommend that you ask this question in other forumas. HighLifter for example. I think that you will find varying opinions. My personal preference was the Grizz and I am happy with it. Yours may very well be different. The best advice I can give is to ride all of the models that you can and choose yourself. If the Grizz were such a bad machine, why are so many being sold and why is it always being compared to the Sportsman?
