97 scrambler 400 jetting and trans oil
hi guys , i am new to this site and this it is awesome ....
i got a blowed up 97 scrambler 400 4x4 that i have been fixing up and now i am at the point to cleanup the jetting (it been running supper fat in the first half and die at full throttle, going to a full tank of gas within 40 miles and often fooling plug if not riding at over half throttle)
anyone has the correct jetting starting point for those machine ?
mine has a PSI pipe and DG stinger , the air box is stock with rubber snorkel and a new UNI foam filter lightly oil .
the carb now it has 250 main jet , 6CEY6 needle with the clip at 2nd from top , needle jet is 480-o6 ,27.5 pilot ,1.5 cutaway ,2.5 needle and seat ...
i ride @ 2000ft between temp of 20 to 60 degree f ....
i also need to know what type of oil to use in the gearbox/tranny , the scrambler has only high gear no low gear position ...the local Polaris dealer give me AGL plus but it look a lot thinner then what come out of it after i drained it ....
thanks for helping a old dirtbiker

Agl is what it calls for! Will be thicker when old and drained out! As far as jetting always just start from stock settings!! , stock main jet is 230 from sea level to about where you are riding at in altitude, plus you have to figure in temp also!COLD weather, they run leaner,WARM weather, richer).Plus if its fouling plugs could be needing a new needle and seat also?? You just need a supply of jets from stock up a couple sizes or more and trial and error.A lot of people over compensate by jetting too rich. If you're running a 250 main and its rich, drop down to a 240 and go from there.Plus you can try adjusting the needle also. NO ONE can give you a SPOT ON jetting unless its someone from your area with the same atv and same aftermarket items and has already tuned his atv!!! Always check the plug to make sure its not too lean!(light to medium tan) OPT
