I bought Olav Aaen's book on clutch tuning, and one of the first recomendations is to put a tach on the engine to keep track of the changes to the clutch. A tach is mandatory to tune a roller clutch, and I'll be ordering a HPD roller this week.
I'll have to fab up a tach mounting bracket, hopefully it'll look as good as some of the other pieces that I made.
Xplor, how did the photos that I sent of those parts look ?

OK I pulled the front cover off my Scrambler and I see about a million yellow/red wires. Got any pics of your wiring, or a little more specific location? Thanks for the help.

I used the yellow / red that plugs into the reverse rev limiter. I know there were a bunch under the hood. I disabled the rev limiter after I put the clutch kit in. You had to use the override button to back up, and that would not allow me to turn around (with both hands on the handlebars) to see where I was going.
The Autometer tach should be here on Wednesday the 21st.
I love to buy my own birthday presents, I get such good gifts !!!

Captain Nemo , If you find something good , at a fair price , let us know . Marine tachs I would aggree are pretty durable . The one I use is from ultralight aircraft applications .

I used to use tachs from snowmobiles , my favorite was from a John Deere Liquifire . It was a nice guage. When Parts unlimited bought Deere inventory I bought many and used them on Banshees . The supply has since dried up . Don't rule out a sled tach , they good quality .

Thanks. I pulled out the schematic after I posted my question and found it. It worked out that I had the crimp connectors in the garage the make it a plug in install. Already had a tach laying around.

Here's an update: I received an Autometer 3.75" 10,000 RPM tach in the UPS last night from Summit Racing (for my birthday, 36, will I ever learn...) www.summitracing.com( lots of stuff for tow vehicles and other toys )
I got out in the garage tonight and played around for a while. It DEFINATELY WORKS !!!! I'll have to look around under the hood to find a keyed 12v positive wire for the tach power, but that shouldn't be too tough. I'll connect the light into the headlight cicuit for those after dark runs.
I am fabbing up an aluminum mount that will go on top of the handlebar clamps, and should have it back together this weekend. I can shoot some photos if anyone's interested. ( Why don't I just do a web site already and get it overwith... )

I'm interested, too. Did you say you had it temporarily wired for the check you did? What part number did you use?
