Tachometer Help?
#22
I'll check the purple wire, Thanks.
The tach is an Autometer # 3700 10,000 RPM, the 8,000 RPM is a # 3780. Most of the 400s don't rev over 7,500 RPM, but I liked the 10,000 tach, as I would have people looking at it, and wanted to give the "lookers" something to think about.

Woopps I think I made a booboo
I was looking at the wiring and the keyed 12v is the red with white stripe. I am so sorry I hope you did not cut anything I should have checked before I posted
Again I am sorry for the mis-info

No, Mill, I didn't get to work out in the garage last night, so I didn't make any cuts in the wiring. I'll check the red / white with a test light before I get too deep into it. Thanks for the heads-up.

I put the tach on this afternoon, I had to fabricate an aluminum bracket to mount the tach in front of the handlebars. It works great, and looks even better. I took it out for a blast through the neighborhood this afternoon, and the engine was turning right at 7,000 rpm. I may have to play with the clutches some more to get some more rpm out of it.
I've got some photos for those that want them.
Mill, you were right, the red / white wire was the keyed hot.
With all of the fabrication work I've been doing lately, ie: sprocket and disk brake guards, tach mount, and oil tank blank for the front hood ( fills in the hole left from removing the oil tank ), I may have open a shop and start doing it full time...
