Here's a little more from that peticular arcticle:
"Frontier: Polaris’ answer to Cat’s 4-Stroke comes in the Edge chassis with a Polaris-built 780cc engine that was quiet and seemed stronger than the Arctic Cat. It would pull the Cat in a long straight, but we doubt for this buyer that this will be very important.
Also seen was a single seat version, but Polaris may not offer this setup initially. The two-up is aimed at rentals and Polaris will have about 250 for consumer production as pilot build for next winter before entering into full-scale production. The test unit seemed okay but we believe that what we saw may well change significantly under the hood before we see it again.
The 4-stroke engine was said to weigh about 104 pounds and deliver 48 horsepower. While Polaris claims this is a “snowmobile only” design, we expect you soon may see a familiar derivative in a new “Sportsman-type” ATV."

according to the article on maximumsled the cylinders go up and down together. they must have large counter weights to smooth it out. they said that they can put the cylinders closer by having them move together.
i dont think they need a compact design for a sled, but they do for a quad.
looking at the engine it almost looks like a big single cylinder.
still looks like a tight fit

Now you would have to be a hard core greeny to pay out who knows what money, for a 780cc sled that only pushes 48hp. You will be riding with people on 400 sleds that will blow your cab off! I think think every sled company would have to stop making 2 strokes and every one left over would have to be sold before people will be forced to get a low powered 4 stroke sled.
