Dealership issues
#1
I brought my SP500 in for the 1st service to the dealer I bought it from. Got raped $80 for what was probable just an oil change. When I got home I checked and found the majority of the zerks had dirt on them. This led me to conclude they did not lube it. They were suppose to do this.
I had them do the 1st service for warranty purposes and to catch anything they initally missed.
I dont want to get in a war with the shop guys cause I may need them some day. Kinda like tipping the pizza delivery guy. Want something extra next time on your medium cheese pizza?
Plus the dealer still owes me the rear cargo box from the promotion. At the time of purchase they told me there was no promotion. I remembered seeing an ad and blew it off at the time of sale. I found the ad and took it to them. They will honor the promo. Had I known about the winch offer I would have waited two weeks to get the ATV.
What to do?? Not that many customer oriented dealers here in So. Cal.

A good dealer will provide some sort of check list showing what items were looked at during the service. I f you find a discrepency I would bring it ot their attention.
As far as I can remember a standard service consists of:
oil change w/ filter
new plug
air filter
hit all zerks
check chain tension
inspect brakes
check coolant level
and probaly a few other checks
Parts cost is around $25, plus 2hrs mechanic labor, say $50, so $80 isn't unreasonable, unless they didn't perform what I listed above, at minimum.
As far as the promotion, the dealer must submit paperwork to Polaris to get the item advertised, and I'll just say that the Polaris distribution process is not the fastest.

yeah change dealers, my dealer when I bought my 2000 Sportsman, they gave me a free service at 500 miles they took me out back and went over were all the grease fitting are. the mechanic totally went over the machine, checked everything to make sure it was good to go. my dealer actually insists that people attend there first servicing, he knows that allot of people cannot afford to bring the machines in everytime they need greasing or an oil change. So he wants to make sure people know how to check all the levels, and no were all the zerks are. Pretty awesome place. They generally charge 60 bucks for a greasing and fluids check and oil change.
