My thinking is that, depending on how some things work out, I'd get the 850 X2 and sell my old X2 or keep the old X2 and get a Can-Am 650 or 800 Max or a Polaris 850 Touring.

I rode Doug's 850 touring the other day, nicer than my 550.

Doug won’t let me take it home because he said that at least one of these two machines needs to be resalable when they go back to Polaris.

If I were to keep it this is why.
That's the greatest little compartment I've seen.
I manage our water company and I can carry my water sample test kit and needed tools in there. I like it.

That's one of the reasons I really like Polaris. The on board storage options are fantastic. Does the Touring come with the integrated front box?

tough one

I can't take the heat from the CanAm clutch but prefer CanAms 4-wd.

I know a few folks who have AC 650 TRVs and really like them.

This 550 takes me anywhere I want to go except in deeper snow. I think a 650 would be ideal.

Yep, I sure wish the inside of it was flat. Kind of hard to put the stuff in there that I would like but it sure beats not having one or trying to strap something else on there.

This is one area that Polaris really excels in.

And what ever you end up with make sure it has power steering.

The worst EPS is better than manual any day of the week.

About half our rides are in snow some years. The 500 just won't do it for my weight and the weight of the quad in the snow. I would love it if Polaris had a 700 class machine in the X2 just so I get a little better gas mileage. Another reason to like the Can-Ams. If my son's Renegade is any indicator the Can-Ams get great gas mileage. When we were breaking his in we took it out on a railtrail and he got over 30 mpg with his 500 on the same trail and at the same speeds where I got 22 mpg.

Even though they're not flat inside they hold a ton of stuff. I have a tree strap, tow strap, ****** block pulley, 2 rolls of TP, small Stanley socket set, jackknife style torx, and allen wrenches, spare drive belt, owner's manual and tool set, Leatherman tool, folding pruning saw, and more in there. It's nice to have a spot where you can put the things you don't use often.

I've got 27-28 mpg out of my Rubicon numerous times. A happy average is about 18.

I probably average 12 with this 550 but it's all short rides and stop and go. I did get 20 out of one tank.

I'm looking forward to summer so I can "ride" and see whst it really gets. I'm sure 20+ will be no problem on longer rides.

I think ride, comfort, dependability, ruggidness, engineering, etc are more important factors in my book... You can always carry extra gas...MPG is so misleading in my opinion...It all depends on what kind of riding you are doing...just my two cents...
