Default Touchy throttle.. 2011 850 XP EPS...

Hey guys...Only rode my buddy's 850 a couple times but is seems the throttle is pretty sensitive when you take off...He thinks it is very touchy but when I ride it , maybe it's just me, but I can seem to feather it a little more on take off..Do any other of you 850 guys experience this? I thought maybe the only solution might be to change primary spring...Not sure...

Does the throttle feel ok? These are adjusted different than the older model atvs. You have to pop the throttle cap and adjust the cable to where there is 2mm clearance on the etc contacts. Don't know if this is the problem? OPT

Once you get goin , it's fine...It's when you first take off is when it seems to engage very rapidly and suddenly almost like the rpm's are too high for engagement...It's been a while since I rode it so I don't remember the specifics too clearly but that's the jist of the problem...

Yea,I know what your talking about now, seems like the idle was about 1800 rpms on the 850 and I noticed when they first came out the clutches seemed to hit hard and quick. Always thought the idle should be lower, but that's just me. OPT

seems like i read somewhere on this that they do engage hard because of the spring set up.

My 2010 550 is really jumpy. You just have to get use to it. It takes a while to get the feel for the throttle and when the trans connects. The only place it gave me an issue was in very rough tight terrain when I was having to be very gentle with the throttle. The trick i use in those situations is to hold in the brake and add power until the CVT catches and then ease off the brake.

I'm gonna get a clutch kit for mine this spring or summer and hopefully it eliminates that. It is annoying. New riders especially have trouble with it.

On another thread here there is mention that the 2012's have different clutch springs which make it much smoother. Maybe just switch to the new set-up? I personally prefer a more aggressive engagement.

Ok guys...Thanks for all your input and advice...I'll have to see what he wants to do...One time he had it parked just outside the garage door and wanted to pull it in for the night...well... he gave it a little too much throttle and ended up running into the back of his Corvette...Wasn't too happy about that...lol...Ok thanks again guys...
