Default polaris 90 update

Well, I got my 90 running with a new carb and it runs great. Problem is on stands it accellerates good but when I put it on the ground it wont hardly move at all. I took the belt cover off and ran it the belt moves up the drive pulley like it should (on stands) but the engine acts like it wont rev up enough to do it with a load. Any ideas?

Check out the drive sprocket, have had internal splines stripped before on these. Will run with no load, but under load wouldn't move. One thing you can eliminate as a problem. See if you can hold the rear wheel while it's up on stands to see if you can stop it from pulling. If the sprocket is stripped you will hear and feel it. If you can't stop the wheel, then could be a problem in the clutches? OPT

It feels like to me that something is holding it back. It wont accellerate when its on the ground. kinda bogs but when it's on the stands it runs and accellerates like a champ. Maybe still engine related since it wont pull itself.

guessing it is a 2001 scrambler.if so,don't be stupid like me and replace just about everything.get rid of electric choke with manual conversion kit.the problem is not with the choke in the carb.itself, but the circuit on the bike.trust me on this one if it's a 2001.

Why would it only bog with a load on it? I can run it on stands and it runs great, but when I grab the tire then try to run it I can stop the tire from turning. It's like the engine can't overpower me. The engine just falls flat and bogs down.

If you have a new carb on it as you say, what do you have the air/fuel screw turned out to? Should be around 1 - 1 3/8 turn out(you might have to fiddle with this, plus is is an oem replacement carb(same jets, etc) or aftermarket? OPT

It's an oem polaris carb I got from the dealer. The screw is turned out 1-1/4. It starts quick and idles perfectly. Just no power with a load on it.

you never specified what model year you have.the choke circuit is applying itself when when you load up on throttle.OPT would know how to explain it better than I.I really believe I'm correct on this one because all that i went through (this is all providing that you have a 2001,the only year an electric choke was used!!

Yeah it's a 2001 with electric choke. Why would the choke apply only with a load on the engine? Another question is could it be the cdi box or anything electrical?

The major problem I had with the 2001 and 2002 models(ones with the electric choke) and also later models, were stators that shorted out because of dirt and mud ! Don't even remember replacing a cdi or even a coil! If you haven't cleaned around the stator and pickup coil you could try that and may help, but I never had much luck with this. As far as the electric chokes,I did replace some with the manual choke kits,BUT if they sat up for awhile or the weather was really cold you still had to block off the air inlet to get em started! Basically I just showed people how to start em blocking off the air tube and really didn't have many requests for the choke kits. They mainly came in for service when they lost spark and quit running. A lot of this is the way the air is pulled into the stator area through the cover along with water and dirt. The cover was redesigned on later models and especially on the newer 4 strokes. Hope this might help. Ask a friendly dealer(if you can find one!) for the stator resistance specs to see if you can eliminate this as a problem. OPT
