Default 2006 Scrambler 500 4x4 slipping on take off

Hello All,
I recently received a 2006 Scrambler 500 4x4 due to reposession (let the guy have it in my name and he stopped paying the payments). He had the quad for about 3 years. Once I received it, it was in rough shape so I did an all around tune up, oil, filters, coolant, tires, brakes, chain, belt, etc. Well, he kept the thing on the back wheels the entire time he had it and seeing how this is a heavy bike I am assuming this put some strain on the clutch. When taking off on the bike it hesitates, not the motor but it seems like something is slipping and it catches all of a sudden. This doesn't happen at higher speeds, only when taking off or accelerating from a lower speed. Also, when putting the bike into gear it grinds a bit, I have set the acceleration as low as possible without stalling and it did help the grinding but it is still there, and I don't like having the idle this low. It looks like the bushings on the linkage are worn so I'm hoping replacing those will help the grinding noise but I am at a loss about the slippage. I am not very mechanically inclined and don't like diving into things without instruction. There are 0 mechanics in my area so I desperately need some advice.

Thanks in advance.

Welcome to the forum! You might want to check into the clutches for any slide button wear especially the rear clutch for ramp button wear. Plus wear on the helix itself. Can cause this slipping problem along with jerking and hesitation. Not an uncommon problem on the Scramblers or any other atv with a non ebs clutch. OPT

Any Way you would be kind enough to give me a little instruction. I know 0 about clutches and transmissions.

This where a picture is worth a thousand words! Best to get a manual if you no knowledge of the clutches, plus there are specialized tools required to work on them also. OPT

Thanks for the info. I don't feel comfortable tackling this one. Maybe if I keep diggin I'll find a mechanic somewhere nearby.

Browse Look under you model number for drive and driven clutch, will give you an idea what parts are involved. Plus you might want to look at your chain and sprockets. Could be something as simple as too loose a chain, worn teeth, etc. OPT
