01 400 sportsman will not start unless 6 pin connector going into speedo is unplugged i think it may be the black wire coming from the cdi can i just disconnect it from my speedo connection without any troubles or? what else should i try im new to all this so thx

 

Welcome to the forum! You can go directly to the cdi and disconnect or just snip the black kill wire and see if that's the problem. (you can always just splice it back) If it doesn't help could be the limiter built into the speedo that could be shorting out. Think some posters have jumped wires on this,but at the shop we just replaced faulty speedos,didn't get into bypassing. Plus you can check the harness red wire going into the speedo,should be hot at all times,could be a short in the harness itself ??. OPT
