Default 08' Sportsman 800 fuel?

I have an 08 Sportsman 800 EFI bone stock that I bought new and I noticed after a recent trip to the Hatfield Mccoy trail system that this thing sucks gas like a pig!!! has anyone else with a sportsman say a 500, 700, or 800 noticed the same thing? Is this just the way it is? or can I make some modifications to help with the fuel consumption? Thanx for any advice and or input.

I had a 500 and 700 both carbs and they were pretty good on gas....the 500 better....but my 800 efi sucks gas....should have bought the 500 carb model if I had to do it over again.

There is a lever on the right side handlebar...if you don't push as hard on it, the gas will last longer! It is an 800 cc quad, it will take some gas!!

Nothing wrong with it. Just the way they are. Pipe it and your mileage will go up a bit. They are set up on the rich side from the factory and a pipe will lean it out a bit. Great investment for the 800's is a rotopax fuel can. Easy to mount just about anywhere( had mine on the front box of my last 800) and never hurts to have extra fuel with. I always have at least an extra tank worth of fuel on my RZR. When I was running sportsman 800's I had the rotopax 4 gallon along with a 1.5 gallon container that fit snug in the rear lock & ride box with the rest of my trail supplies.

they can remap it w/ the computer to help lean it out a little. i had the 06 and 08' 800's and when i played i got as little as 8 mpg w/ 27" tires and as good as 16 mpg when i drove it good w/ stock tires on it. stupid as it sounds, laying of the throttle on these big bores does help. but not as fun lol

Any suggestions on a pipe?

Do you think a pipe or just having the dealer re-map it would be the way to go? and yeah theres no fun in staying off the throttle hence the reason for buying an 800 "just saying"

Best sounding system I ever had on my 800 was a hotseat true dual. Had aaen in the past and it worked fine. If you go the pipe route do a youtube search and there should be plenty of popos on there with different pipes so you can decide which one sounds best. Check with a dealer on what re-mapping would cost. My preference has always been piping mostly because stock is way too quiet:-)

Yeah I understand what you mean, I was just asking if the sportsman 800 are gas guzzling pigs or would there be something possibly wrong because of how much fuel its drinks? Im getting the concensus that its normal so Im fine with it. I would rather have overall performance/speed though
