Default Front axle?

04 Sportsman 500. My son recked it a few months ago I brought it back from the insurance co. and repaired it. I now have a pop/clicking type noise coming from what I think is the left front. I doesn't do it all of the time so it's tough for me to figure out where it's coming from. The machine doesn't pull or wobble so i'm stumped. Thoughts? Thanks.

Clicking could be from the front drive shaft cv joint going into the wheel or could be u joint wear on end of the shaft going into the front differential. It could even be brake pad clicking in the caliper from a bent rotor from the wreck.. Doesn't have to be associated with the wreck, but could be. Even with a sealed boot the cv joint could be worn and have too much play causing the noise. The atv is going on 8 years old and things will happen. Just jack the atv up and see if you can find the source of the noise starting at the rotor and caliper. Hard to tell sometimes on the cv unless it's removed to where you can twist the cv on the shaft to check for play, have had some cvs just spit bearings out after sliding the boot back. OPT

OPT,
Thanks I will look in to it next week. 1 son graduates HS tonight and the other leaves for basic training at Ft. Benning on Sunday. So weve been busy. Let you know what I find.

I got another chance to look. The hub/rotor are running way out of round and the noise is coming from the axle hub area. It's pretty nasty it wore the outboard pad out. So me thinking I need to pull it apart.

Sounds like you've either got a bent caliper mount or rotor or may be both. Wreck jobs are fun to work on Good luck OPT

Quoting OPT "Wreck Jobs are fun to work on" I have done some of that through the years and it's like opening Pandora's Box or opening a can of worms. Sometimes when you fix some part, it will take care of a problem, other times, it will only serve to highlight another matter.

That's exactly what I meant about working on wreck jobs. I almost never could pin down the exact cost of repair and always informed customers that before I started! It's like a present, you don't know what you'll find until you unwrap it OPT

Ended up being the left axle. So about $480 later with new front brake pads we are good to go. I had to take it to a shop since I had no time to do it myself. I hate paying but time was limited and it was done right.
