I'm guessing since you're referring to the break in, that this is new. It's not normal for any brand I've ever known. Did you get this locally from a dealer or is it an internet sale?

If you're really concerned about backfiring with only 25 hours on the atv, take it to the dealer to have it checked out or check that you have 2mm play in the etc switch which can cause it to backfire. We had several 550 and 850 XPs do this(even with the etc switch adjusted) until they had a little time on them to break in. The computer has to learn and keep in memory from the sensors on air/fuel mixture, air temperature, etc. Seems like the XPs were really the only ones that ever did this and just takes a few miles for the back firing to decrease then stop. If you are refering to an 850, then yes, most of them do backfire occasionally during the break in period. I wouldn't say anything is wrong as I haven't heard of any that didn't stop backfiring sometime during the break in period. I couldn't tell you when mine stopped, I just noticed that it didn't do it anymore.

I guess that's what I get for not buying anything new. Or new fangled anyway. None of my old new stuff did that.

must be one of a hell of away to sell new bikes hey they are great, just don't mind them back firing a little as thats a normal thing for new bikes! my 08' 800 ran lean form new as well but no back firing. I must just have been lucky i guess.
