Well... your dealer is partly correct Fuji is somewhat American because General Motors owns about 30% of it.
There are Fuji engines in all of the Polaris machines.
In snowmobiles the Fuji 488 (alias 500) has a legendary reputation for durability.
I really do not think that engines have ever been a relability issue at Polaris. In the past it was all of the other parts surrounding the engine that fell apart. LOL

From what I've found out, Fuji heavy industries builds engines for a lot of manufacturers, like Subaru, John Deere, Snapper etc. They have a manufacturing plant in Wisconsin for their subsidiary Robin America. Whether or not Polaris' engines (if any at all) are manufactured there, that is still elusive. However it appears that Fuji is quite a 'Big Gun' when it comes to engine manufacturing. In regards to Subaru, their engines are quite well known for being bullet proof. They (Subaru) are so well liked that some people that build homebuilt aircraft use them in their projects. BTW they also build structural members for Boeing on their 777 aircraft. I don't feel that there is much to fear about the quality of what this manufacturer is capable of producing. In other words, buy with confidence that these engines are of top quality.
