haha it's a 2000 expedition I was confused which is not abnormal. - Thanks for the info as always.
Just a carb bowl gasket. You drain the 425 like the 500. You can eliminate draining the sump by draining the oil tank first then cranking the engine for about 10 seconds then kill it.The sump oil will drain into and out of the oil tank. Then replace with a new filter and oil. PLUS there's no 2000 425 Explorer as you mentioned in your first post? What do you have? Expedition,Magnum?

Clutches out of alignment plus usually a burnt belt from this causes hard to shift conditions especially if it creeps in gear. Pull the clutch cover and in neutral look at where the belt is riding on the clutches while at an idle.If the belt is touching the inner sheath and not riding in the center of the front clutch it will constantly turn the rear clutch putting a pull on the transmission gears causing shifting problems. Usually shimming out the rear clutch with additional shims along with a new belt solves this problem. Also if rear clutch ramp buttons are worn down it can cause problems. Item #2 on shim,#17 on ramp buttons.Dirt Cheap Yamaha, Honda, Arctic Cat & Polaris OEM Parts & Accessories – Cycle Parts Warehouse You can pull the rear clutch and match this shim up at any good hardware store.

Not on a 2 stroke. In all probability the cylinder is scored/worn.Sticking a stock piston and rings back in would be a waste of money. The cylinder needs to be measured for the next oversize piston that will clean up the cylinder.Plus if you've broken a piston skirt I'd look carefully at the bottom end for any shavings, plus if the rod has any up and down play the crank would need to be rebuilt along with crank bearings and seals. Can get a little expensive on the 400.
