How to Make Scrambler 500 fast as 400EX

In doing research on my ex, I,ve found some things are becoming consistant. The four strokes love to breath, be it a modded air box a bigger carb(to alow more air to flow through)(just discovered that)to a better high flowing exaust,(I'm trying to make quite)Yeaaa right.I'm learning more every day but god this is getting expensive!!!!!.
It seems the road to high performance on a four stroke is through your wallet.
After getting it to breath then we go into serious engine mods.Thats where the big dividens start showing up.(but thats another check book)still working on it.
PS I hear you lurking around A400L I,ll be their soon.Hey you live right near my sister in St louis

trx430ex,
I understand everything you are saying. The 500 is not far from the mighty ex, I don't think it would take much to hang with a stocker. But the 400L on the other hand is more than the 430ex wants, trust me. I know you guys joke around alot, but I have owned/ridden enough of these things to know. When it comes to straight line acceleration, always bet on the 2 stroke. But I'm more into the trail riding & mudding & hill climbing. Thats why I sold the HIGHLY Modified 400L I owned. I WILLNOT go into the 500's engine just to get a little more speed. I absolutely love this machine as is. I just like knowing it is at its full potential, & I can tell that the 500 has more to offer. Thanks for all the info, stay away from the 400L, & ride safe!

Jerome Read This....
***I have a 99 HO with a HPD pipe and clutch, slight air-box mods,
and 25'' bear claws on my machine. I raced a friends 400EX, I was a little
disappointed, I only beat him by about 5 quad lengths. I thought a 400EX
with a FMF pipe and jet kit would be a little more challenging.***
This is from guy named Michael Seprish, from I think NE PA. Anyway That was his story about his Scrambler 500 that he told me about. Maybe you may want to try that approach.

the scrambler 500 is a high output engine vs. the sportman 500 which is not, the camshafts and ignition are different, to lose a little more weight go with the itp mudlite tires much lighter than the stock ones, I also went from a 40mm stock carb to the 42mm predator 500 carb on mine runs great. hope this helps
