I have a 2004 Trail Boss 330 that is in decent shape, but often jumps out of gear. It seems to do it most often when not under load-going down hill or slowing down. Is there any adjustment that might help this, or am I going to need to find a used transmission for replacement?

 

If its like a sportsman there is two linkage rods from the shifter to the tranny with adjuster and lock nuts,one rod is for foward and the other is for reverse.

Mine did that and just a little turn of the adjuster fix it.

 

Thanks, but the Trail Boss only has one rod connected to a bell crank. I've adjusted it so there's no body work or anything else that's in the way, so it goes fully into gear.

 

If you've adjusted the shift linkage,belcrank is tight,etc, then could be worn lugs on the slider gear or drive gear in the gear case that could be causing it to jump. OPT

 

Thanks --I haven't been inside the gearcase. Are these parts that can be reasonably replaced?

 

Cheapest online places are Cycle Parts Warehouse and Cheap Cycle Parts.Look at their breakdowns on the gear cases. If it is internal gear problems the gears can run from $40 and up depending on what needs to be replaced along with the seals. Plus it could just be the internal silent chain actually jumping teeth,causing the problem? OPT
