a friend of mine just bought a leftover 2000 model 425 for 4500.00 .he wanted me to ride it to see how it would compare with power with my 99 sp 500.i could blow it away easy.it seems torquey but also it is hitting a rev limiter or something.anyone else hitting a rev limiter on a 425?would it be in the cdi box on the limiter?

It does seem that way to me to with my xpedition. In 1st. thru 4th. gear but not 5th. gear, which is overdrive and will wind out to the best of its ability. In the last 2 years, I have learned to listen for the sound when I know its time to up shift because the engine hit that limiter. I have know idea where it physically is? I only wanted to
say, that I experience the same thing your saying.
rangerchet My 2000 polaris xpedition is really a 99. but when I bought it. Polaris advertisements in the dealers manual was calling it a 2000 but its really not. I saw a new one a couple of weeks ago and I only saw about 2 or 3 changes on it from
mine. rangerchet

Your Xpedition 425 is a 2000 model. It can't be a 99, there's no such thing. Even if you bought it in 1999 or the manufacture date is in 1999 it's still a 2000 model, albeit an early release 2000. The vehicle manufacturing world uses year models that do not necessarily correspond to actual years and the US gov't approves of this. So your Xped425 really is a 2000 (as long as the 10 digit in the VIN is a "Y").

The 425 has some kind of limiter. My dealer says it is to keep from over-reving the engine as you shift through the gears. It is a pain in the a$$.
The 425 responded well to the H.O. cam and the 38mm flatslide Mikuni. It is as quick as my H.O.
with my 80 lb. son aboard. But it won't go over
54 mph no matter what. The limiter sticks out like a sore thumb with these mods. The Scrambler guys have a way to defeat their limiter by unplugging the orange/grey wire. But on the EXP
that wire controls the reverse solenoid. Our EXP would go sixty if we could defeat the limiter.
I would like to see IRS on the EXP, of course I would like to see IRS on everything. It is a great quad. It shifts better than any other Quad I have ridden. Better than Hondas, Yamahas etc.
it handles great, keeps up with Sportsmans just fine, maybe slides a little better. It is one of the "Big Dogs". Only complaints, it is too heavy, and has that damn limiter.
Silly Later,,,,Fourlix
