It really depends on how it is ridden and temperatures....
Personally I change mine at least every 60 hours or once a year.
But will normally change it twice a year... I run Mobil 1 synthetic oil and use K&N oil filters..
Personal preference..

I went ahead and changed the engine and trans oil ...glad i did. It seems the oil looks much cleaner on the dipstick than coming out the drain and it smelled of stale fuel as well. Yearly changes at least for me now.

If you want a oil filter for a 425,455 or 500 Polaris these will work.

Here's a nice cross reference chart. It's a few years old, so it's missing some models but from what I can tell, pretty much all Polaris ATVs use the filters in section 5. Use the longer ones if you have room as they have more filtering media. Also, it appears that Walmart (at least in my area) no longer carries the Super Tech filters and has replaced them with Purolator. Whatever you do, DO NOT USE FRAM FILTERS!

Well, the 6 months is nonsense but how often does everyone else do it if you don't hit the recommended mileage or hours in a year? My amsoil still looks new after 2 years and 600 miles.

I had the same machine as you 08 500 but mine was carb . I also used Amsoil and changed the oil every 1000 miles or about 3 to 4 times a year . I also changed the front and rear fluids at the same time . Buy Amsoil by the case and your save some money
