Default New tires for an old Ranger

I need new tires for my 2002 Ranger. I have , I think, the OEM Titan AT489s now. I'd have to go back outside to see what ply they are. I don't need anything more aggressive than what I have now. It's never been stuck where a better tire would have gotten me out and I probably won't be going anywhere that it hasn't already been. Are six plys worth the extra money? How do they affect the ride? Is there a good reason for looking for a different or a cheaper tire? It surprised me that I'd be paying $100 a piece for these things.

Not sure about the ply rating but I would consider having Slime put in all 4 new tires to prevent the inevitable tire leak.
I'd like to see that Ranger with some Mudzillas, Outlaws, or Bi/Tri Claws!!!

Default A little out of character

mtpockets - Thanks for the suggestion but I think those tires would be a little out of character for my Ranger. I'm new her and couldn't figure out how to upload pic's. I'll post some soon.

There are many choices out there. The top two tires that come to mind immediately for you would be the carlisle ACT HD and the STI black diamond. Both are radial, heavy ply and overall great performers without breaking the bank. Both tires can be found in the price range of roughly $400 for a complete set. If you search a little you may find them a little cheaper yet.

I have yet to hear a bad word from these tires. They are relatively cheap, and 6 ply with nice tread.
