400 ho vs. 550

Carbs do struggle a little especially in cold weather, but efi has a "waste spark, waste fuel" mode when the crank sensor first sends a signal to the ecu for firing. It stays in this mode for a little while until the map sensor sends a signal back to the ecu, then it adjusts the idle.Same as any car or truck does. I DON'T favor one system over another on operation, but both need to warm the oil up a little before taking off and especially efi machines as this is where we encountered most of the plug fouling problems at the shop. We'd have some idiot helper pull out the machines every day and this old geezer had to change the plugs when they hit the throttle soon as it cranked and fouled em out. Just my old again. OPT
