The old porous floats on the older models did occasionally become a little saturated with oil and would sink down a little in the oil tank, not registering properly on the oil level. If you hit a bump they would go down and trigger the sensor and flicker on and off. You can replace the assembly, but have heard of people tearing them apart and replacing the floats. Plus check that the float sensor assembly is seated flush in the oil tank. If it doesn't bother you bad enough just leave it alone or just tape over the light or disconnect it,but remember to check the tank level occasionally. Usually you can get between 4 to 5 tanks of fuel on two quarts of injector oil.(At least that's what a lot of people told me at the shop) Dirt Cheap Yamaha, Honda, Arctic Cat & Polaris OEM Parts & Accessories – Cycle Parts Warehouse

It's either running too lean on jetting, carb jets could be partially stopped up,or can even be a needle and seat problem by not letting enough fuel in the bowl. Another reason could be the carb slide sticking, plus leaking crank seals can do the same thing. Just eliminate one thing at a time and I'd start at the carb. While you're at it check for a cracked intake manifold that could be sucking air. When they run wild like this many times they run hot and start dieseling and only way to kill them is to choke them down or let them run out of fuel. No more wide open throttle until you check things out as this can destroy an engine pretty quick..

Just do what you have to do on the carb, either repair or replace it and leave everything plugged up. Here's one on ebay that supposedly was taken from a running machine..http://www.ebay.com/itm/1997-POLARIS-SPORT-400L-CARB-CARBURETOR-/221824749534?hash=item33a5c90fde&vxp=mtr Plus here are some more VM34 Mikuni carbs you can look at. Could be a bad solenoid, short in the wiring coming from the ignition switch or the left control switch. On the small wire on the solenoid test whether it has power on it when you hit the start button. If you do,then you can say the solenoid is at fault. They're cheap.http://www.ebay.com/itm/Starter-Solenoid-Relay-Polaris-ATV-SPORT-400-94-99-NEW-/280524070537?hash=item4150899e89&vxp=mtr

Battery good? Checked the bulbs? Fans not coming on is usually the radiator sensor if the battery is ok. Item #12. Dirt Cheap Yamaha, Polaris, Suzuki & Kawasaki OEM Parts & Accessories – Cycle Parts Warehouse You can pull the two wires out a little on the connectors and use needle nose pliers to jump the connectors. If the fan kicks on,just match the sensor up at any auto supply.
