Default 2001 Polaris 6x6 rearend fluids?

Hi,

I am new to the site and excited to see if this site can keep me up to date with things I need to Know about my 2001 polaris 6x6 ranger.

I Just bought this machine and am in the process of changing all the fluids.

I am up to the rearend the farthest back, what Oil or Gear lube can I use?

What about the front hubs Is there fluid in the front hubs that needs to be changed?? and if So what should I use.

I did not get any manuals with it and most dealers really seem not to give much information??

Thanks In advance..

Donny..

The differentials take Polaris Angle Drive fluid or 80/90 GL4 or GL5 gear oil.Front diff holds about 5 ounces(or a little less) On differentials fill to bottom of fill threads. Hubs take Polaris Demand Drive Hub fluid. Fill at 12 o'clock position, turn to 4 o'clock to drain any excess, a little extra fluid wont hurt. Transmission takes Polaris AGL.This chart might help.Plus don't over look all the grease fittings! http://www.google.com/url?sa=t&rct=j...57316858,d.dmQ

Thankyou for the response would you know the sparkplug gap on the 2001 500 6x6 ranger?

I found a rearend differential 80w90 bel ray gear saver hypoid gear oil I would think that would work for that?

What about just plain 10w40 or transmission fluid for the front hubs??? after all the hubs or rear end does not have any type of clutches in them? or maybe the rear end does?? if not than This would work?

Thanks..

NGK Bkr5e Plug gap .028. 80/90 hypoid is fine to use for the differentials. There are no "clutches" in the differentials, just ring/pinion gears and bearings just like most cars. DON'T use anything but Demand Drive or the newer Demand Drive Plus hub fluid! 10-40 motor oil is too thick for the front hubs! Awd engagement would be erratic if it would even work! The newer hub fluid is even thinner than the ATF that Polaris used in the late 80's. Don't try to substitute this oil! Also the differentials need the higher viscosity 80/90 gear oil and not motor oil that will breakdown!. OPT
