Default Coil

Ok,

So I tested the coil from the tab to the housing that its grounded to.
The result is .4 ohms. I then test from the tab to the brown wire and I get 6 ohms.

What kind of meter are you using? Are you sure the secondary isn't 6K ohms? OPT

I am using a Square D WMM-23

To be sure I am explaining this properly.
When testing from the metal end that the wire runs into and connecting the other end of the wire to the metal part the bolts to the frame I get .4ohms.

When I test from the metal end that the wire runs into to the engine block I get 6 ohms.

Ok,
So I am an idiot. Yes, 6K ohms.

That sounds better I think you're back down to the stator then. It's entirely possible you could have a bad one. I got one from Polaris and one from Ricks that were bad. Plus double check your work on the stator. Make sure ground wire has a good connection if one mounts on the stator plate.

Is there a way to check the stator beyond measuring the ohms? I thought that was within spec.

Just retrace your steps and check all the wiring. The older manuals are kinda limited as to the stator/electrical checks. Plus is this an OEM stator or after market? OPT

I am guessing OEM since the stator wire colors match up with the old one.
Since these have checked out so far, is there a way to test that CDI box?
Should I start cutting ends and replacing them?

Just pull the black ignition kill wire from the cdi to eliminate any problem that it might have in shorting out. There's no test on the cdi.. Also pull the black wire from the reverse limiter module. Then see if you have spark! You have to eliminate all other problems OR replace with a known "good" cdi as the manual says. Plus don't cut wires! If the stator is bad just call where you got it! If you ordered through a dealer or aftermarket company. Most will just send another one when you return this one if no damage and you have the original package.. Rick's sent me another one with no problems. Just recheck your steps on installing the stator to see if you missed something!OPT

Ok,
I might have found something. The book says to check from the black/Red to ground and it is at 4.7M.. Does that qualify as infinite resistance?
