Default 97 polaris 400 4X4 scrambler with no spark.

Here is the story...
The scrambler was running fine but the starter didn't work. I purchased a new one and went to put it in. During the install I couldn't get the fly wheel off so I used a screwdriver to hold it which busted the stator. I purchased a new stator and bolted everything together and its not working. I have a book for diagnostics but it lists a series of models but not exclusively mine...

Here is what I have, a 97 400 4X4 scrambler.
The stator after replacing it has these readings.
brown/white to White = 1.2 ohms.
Brown/white to Red/Black = 114 ohms
White to Red/Black = .6 ohms.

Is this new stator bad and / or does anyone have any suggestions.

My pdf shows to be a little different wiring colors than yours, but the exciter(brn/wht to rd/blk shows to be in range.) shows 120 ohms resistance you show 114 which is ok. + or - 20 percent. Check the coil also. Coil tab to ground .3 ohms. Secondary(plug wire(cap removed) to coil tab 6.3k ohms. Cap shows 3.7-6.3k ohms resistance. OPT

Default Coil

Thanks so much for your reply.'
So I tested the coil end. ( had a blue wire going to it ).
From the tab to ground was 5.87 ohms.
From the tab through the spark plug wire 5.87 ohms as well.
sorry for the other duplicate post. Just getting started on here.

The blue/white wire has to be removed to test the coil properly. Bare coil tab to ground should be 0.3 ohms. Tab to plug wire end, 6.3K with cap removed (+ or- 20%.) OPT

I have 5.8 with the wire connected or not... Is this my problem?

I just checked the wire end to the coil to ground and it was 6 ohms. Then the top ground to the bottom ground and it was 6. Seems like anything I touch from the coil shows 6 ohms which I am guessing is bad.

Does sound like the coil is out of spec, though you said it was running before you replaced the stator?? Most cycle shops have coil checkers. I'd have it checked out before you get another one. OPT

Thanks again. Yes, it was running fine which is odd. I will post my results.

When things like this happen, I like to go back and check the simple things. On quads you can never go wrong cleaning grounds, then "potting" with RTV.
