Default 94 polaris 300 2x4 not moving

Hello all new here. I'm looking to purchase this quad. I am going to look at it tomorrow. He states the quad is in great shape and by the pictures it does. The motor runs great. The issue is that he said it will not go in gear at all. He said he has no idea where to start looking. So it is for sale for 400$. He said he's not mechanically incline. What can it be? Is it worth the money? Thanks guys I've never owned a quad but not afraid to tackle anything. My sled just burnt to the ground yesterday. Brake caliper stuck and caught on fire.

It could be as simple as a shift linkage adjustment(linkage may be in a bind), the shift box may be worn causing problems, or could be an internal transmission problem. This is something that really no one can give you a good answer for. You need to consider the everything else on the atv as it is and be willing to spend more than you pay for it if the problem is serious. Some of the older ones can be money pits. What do these typically go for in good shape and condition?

No prices written in stone on something this old.On a 19 year old atv there has to be things that need to be repaired! You can look up Kelly Blue book listings,NADA,(If is still listed) But the prices are for running machines!! But if the engine runs, body's in good shape, tires, etc, it's worth the $400.But be prepared to spend at least that much more on an old machine,if if needs major work. If you aren't prepared to spend a total of 1000 bucks or more on an old machine if need be,then concentrate on a newer one. Like I posted the shift problem could just be the linkage or could be an internal gear case problem. You wont know until you get into it. If it's too much that you want to tangle with, you can part it out and at least get your money back, possibly more.
