Default Does a 1997 Polaris sportsman 4x4 2 stroke take engine oil?

I posted once already, but I am still confused about if it takes an engine oil or if it only takes the 2 cycle oil and then transmission gear oil. Help!

The 2 cycle oil (which is the engine oil) goes in a reservoir on the front of the quad. There's a **** just below the front of the handlebars. You add it there each time you fuel up.

So just some 2 cycle engine oil will work?

I think OPT answered your question better than I can in the other thread where you posted similar questions. He's an authority on all things Polaris. I've had 3 Polaris machines that treated me better than I treated them but OPT (Old Polaris Tech) worked on them for years so I defer to him.

ANY good 2 cycle injector or premix oil will work! Penzoil,Quaker State,Wally World,Quick Silver,Polaris 2 stoke injector oil, Just stay with the same oil, don't switch back and forth. It doesn't have to be the expensive synthetic "smokeless" oil that still smokes OPT

There is some oil in the base for the balance shaft! Not sure on exact amount but there is a dip stick under the carb!

Does this also apply to a 96 trail boss 250? I am doing a complete rebuild and don't see a dipstick in the engine. But there is/was oil in the bottom of the engine.

Nope you don't have a counter balancer on the 250 engine. The only oil is you have for the engine is either in the oil tank or in the fuel if you premix.
