Check starter?
#1
I already bridged the solenoid and it works fine. What I don't know how to check is the starter. Where is it located and how can I check it? I try and pull start it and the pull has tension on it so I don't think anything is seized up but there is something wrong in the starting system. When I try to use the push start it makes a weird buzzing noise that sounds like it is coming from the engine. Any help?

unless the starter drive gear is fully engauged to the flywheel, it should have no effect on the pull starter working. you sure it's not just on the compression stroke and harder to pull or is it not pulling at all which means something is froze up. pretty much if you crossed the solenoid and the starter did not turn over and is making noises, then there is an issue with the starter it self and has to come apart to be fixed or replaced.

Not sure what bike you have but basically you need to get a 12v pos. lead to the screw on the top of the starter. Connect it to the pos terminal of the battery and touch the other end to the starter lug. If it turns over slowly or not at all then you need to pull it out and rebuild it.

If you bridge the solenoid big terminal to big terminal the starter should spin. What type of bike is it this will help us determine where the starter is. If it is a 500 it is on top of motor below the air intake. If you hear whining when you hit the start button but it doesn't start it may be that the starter is spinning but the bendix isn't engaging the fly wheel and turning the motor over.
