I have a DUSE 500 HO on the way. Can't wait to get it next week. My dad and I went and looked at a 1999 SP500 for him this evening. It hardly has a scratch on it. Has 450 miles and cranked easily. The engine ran smoothly. The only hang up he had was at low rpm's up through the initial engaging of the belt it makes a rattling noise. It goes away as soon as you start rolling. The one's I have tried out at dealers do not do this. Is this just part of the older design or a potential problem? The guy wants $4500 but did come down to $4250. One other thing is the center plastic just in front of the guage / headlight pod is black and the rest of the bike is green. I've never seen this before on a SP500.
Any tips or suggestions would be appreciated.

I would be taking a good look at the drive clutch buttons and the area they slide on .

Worst case scenario , $285.00 .

ChopperBill .... ideas ?

I would agree. Probably driven clutch problems. Cost me close to $400 to have repaired. The 96 model Sportsman 500 has the black plastic panel, not sure about the 99 model.
