Default '03 sportsman 500, upgrading electrical system?

I'd like to add some rear facing lights to my atv.

I assume the electrical system isn't designed to do much more than the ignition system, a fan, and a light. I know when my radiator fan kicks on the lights already dim, so I'm not sure how much more it can handle.

Do I have any options to upgrade this? I'd like to run at least a 100w light, and have the battery still charging while idling.

Thanks!

The lights shouldn't dim when the fan kicks on. Check that you're charging 14-14.5 volts back to the battery while idling and that the battery connections are tight. If charging is within range,I'd have the battery load tested as it could be getting weak and could be needing replacing. The alternator output is rated at 250 watts and we've mounted some awfully bright double Piaa lights before with no dimming problems. OPT.

Nice I didn't know it could handle that much. Is that rating at idle? If I could plan on 200w at idle that'd be perfect.

Anyway I just checked the voltage, 14.45 with choke, 13.7 without choke, though the engine was cold.

Also, battery is a week old, and I keep it plugged into a battery tender when not in use.

250 watts output is what the manual shows(doesn't show at what rpm),but you can take anything to extremes. Others that have added lights should be along to give you more ideas as to what's best for your needs. Some have posted about led lighting. Expensive, but bright. http://www.bajadesigns.com/products/...hts/atv-lights
