This is a small hole worn into the dip stick tube from friction against the belt housing. Eventually led to the crank bearings having dirt in them and now needs a total rebuild which im going to try myself, never have been this deep in an engine.
Anyway 3 polaris shops around here have never seen or heard of this happening. hope the pics come out and perhaps it may clue some people into checking this occasionally.

Nope! Hadn't seen the tube have a worn spot because of hoses/belt housing, but have had a few of the 700 and 800's dip stick tube holder screws vibrate loose from the engine and seep in a little water past the o-rings as the holder rose up from its seat. Hope you decide to zip tie any hoses up out of the way now, plus wrap the dip stick tube if you have to! Freaky thing that destroyed an engine! Plus make sure the clutch backing plate isn't warped as it should have had some clearance between it and the tube.
