Default refilling the coolant 03 700

Is there an air bleed or special way to get the air out of the cooling system on a 2003 700 sportsman? I know some say just run with the cap off some say do that but jack up the front end, and some have a something else that has a bleeder screw and others. Anybody?

No bleed screws. It takes some machines several tries to get all the air out. Jack up the front end (the manual says from the drivers side with front and rear wheels off the ground, but the front seemed to work the best for me) with the tires off the ground about 6 to 8 inches. It's because the coolant return line from the engine goes right back to the remote filler neck and then to the radiator that causes the problems. http://www.cyclepartswarehouse.com/f...2003&fveh=5618 The 2005 models changed this and went straight to the radiator, cutting bleeding time in half. You have to be patient. Let the fan cycle on and off several times, while slowly adding coolant as the level in the radiator drops.Usually after about 2 to 3 fan cycles, the air is purged and you can top off the radiator, replace the cap and top off the recovery bottle. You can actually order a thermostat cover from a Ranger that has a bleed screw made into it,or you can tap your cover and install a bleed screw. http://www.cyclepartswarehouse.com/f...007&fveh=11382

Thank you OPT! You always come through for us! His bike has the fan wired to a switch so he can turn it off in deep water but we jacked it up in the front and let it idle for about 30 minutes and there were no bubbles and the coolant didn't go down anymore during the last 10 mins or so.
