ok well heres where im at, the new metering needle that came with m carb kit was much thinner at the base allowing too much fuel, i removed the 170 jet and installed the 165 and the origional needle, one notch(3rd) below the factory setting. idle screw at 3 turns, and currently its running solid! i may go back in and re install the 170 with the current needle to bump the midrange some.

2006 Outlaw 500 1/8" throttle issue

Question for you. I have an 06 Outlaw 500 and I'm running no airbox lid. I've done the 02 sensor verification and I have power and perfect mixture everywhere but 1/8.
I have a stock 45 pilot and I'm one turn out. Running 4th down from the top on the stock needle. Seems like it would be rich with 4th down (raised), but good power, plug is perfect and O2 sensor reading good.
However, at trailing /cruising at the 1/8" it has no power and the O2 sensor is reading lean.
I could bump up the pilot but FMS is 1 turn out already. I've cleaned the carb a few times, but can't figure out why I'm lean at 1/8". I see some things that say the slide cutaway may need changed, but it is stock and should be ok. Also, I found a post that said the float spring should be 3-1/8". Mine is well over 3.5" and it is all stock too.
Thoughts?

1 turn out on the pilot mixture screw is on the lean side to begin with. Try turning out at 1/8 turn increments and see if it helps. 2 turns out is the normal base setting,but with the air box lid off that doesn't help matters either.If you have the lid try it first as from the factory Polaris machines are jetted with the air box closed.

It didn't have the lid when I bought it so I tuned it to w/o.
I did the spring mod (cut it to 3-1/8"). It was over 4" before. I think that shorter spring allowed the valve cutaway to raise easier under lower air volume. Maybe with the lid on, the restriction caused it to act differently.
So, I clipped the spring, put it back together and tried it out. 1 turn out on the FMS is running rich with a stock 45 jet. I agree it should be nearer the 2 turns, but with the 02 sensor, it is in the 11's so rich.

Just my two cents on this is to order the air box lid and carb spring. Some of these so called mods cause more grief than any actual performance gain. http://www.partzilla.com/parts/searc...AKE/parts.html
