Default 06 outlaw carb rebuild and tuning rebuild part 2!

previously on OUTLAW, our hero had built the top end with a wiseco 12.5:1 piston, mild port and polish work, and new timing chain.......so its back together and im close to start up but.. everywhere i look has predator carb rebuild kits but no one lists one for an outlaw. arent they identical? if so i'll order whichever, no biggie. then on to jetting. i know i hafta go fatter but not 100% on the pilot jet size. main jetting is easy, its not my first rodeo but the last polaris carb i modified in any way was my scrambler 500, and all i did was follow FMF for the jetting specs, and it worked awesome. i'll prolly jump off at a 175 jet and go from there. any more recomendations are greatly appreciated.

06 Predator and 06 Outlaw show to share the same carb and jetting, although the replacement carb for the Outlaw has been superceded to the Predator #3131574. As of now both share the #3131574 carb assy.Could have been just be a minor jetting change on the original that caused the part # to change. http://www.cyclepartswarehouse.com/f...2006&fveh=7115 http://www.cyclepartswarehouse.com/f...2006&fveh=5679

Anyone done the carb tuning one this type setup? I don't mind buying a handful of jets but don't really wanna make a ton of part store runs.I'm really just looking for an idea on the main, the fine tuning is easy.

The old rule of thumb (if you have an after market exhaust and higher flow air filter) was 10-15% jump on jetting.Has a 150 main jet stock. I'd have a least a 160,165,170 main jet on hand to experiment with. You can jump one size up on the pilot (47.5 from a 45) if you wish and fine tune the fuel air screw and play with the needle position. All this depends on how radical the modifications are. Just an exhaust system jump wouldn't always cause a big jump in jetting that much,if any at all on a lot of machines. Some would run good and plug would look good with stock jetting or just one size up.

thanx OPT, im ok on minor tuning but im more concerned with the piston swap. picked up a 175, and the stock pilot was a 37.5, i installed a 45. also changed the starter jet to a 155 from 150. i did a minor p&p on the head too.

You've also bumped up compression from 11:1 stock to 12.5:1 also so you have to account for this also. So you might be up in the 170 to 175 main jet range. Your pilot jet difference is what they changed too that made it the same carb # as the Predator. This is just a trial and error on rejetting, but better to start a little fat rather than lean and drop down if you have to. Just keep a check on the plug color.Should be a medium tan color.Plus on top of 91 octane, you may be needing to add a tad of VP race fuel along with premium fuel. This is what we did on some of the modified KTM dirt bikes. You might check around on some KTM forums about this...

runs strong, but pig rich, death at anything better than half throttle lol. started huge with 175, time to drop it down and tune from 170. the ungodly vaccum seems to be playing tricks on he carb too so needle adj is crucial. just an update. that is all.

Figured 175 was going to be too much, but always better than too lean! Betcha you're end up somewhere in the 160-165 range if not a tad lower. Keep us updated.
