If you're talking about the very front sprocket, the drive shaft has a spring pin that has to be driven out and the drive shaft removed to be able to remove the front sprocket. Dirt Cheap Yamaha, Honda, Arctic Cat & Polaris OEM Parts & Accessories – Cycle Parts Warehouse

Best if you have an air chisel with a small pointed bit.Makes short work of removing the pin. If not, it takes a hammer and a punch and usually busted knuckles to drive the pin out.

The pin has to be removed, the entire shaft moved back to be able to pull the drive sprocket off. Here's a link to a pdf manual you can down load to help you with.Index of /ORV Manuals/Polaris/1996-1998 - All Models

If threads are screwed up you can try JB weld and see if it holds or you can either get a used head or order a new inlet nipple.
