Default 03 sportsman 700 clutch swap?

Hey I have a 03 sportsman 700 that has a bad clutch. (Inner sheave is shot). I have read on here about ppl using the sportsman 800 clutch as a swap. My question is what yr 800 will fit on my 700? Also if i cant go that route i will prob go with a comet clutch. If anyone has any answers that would be awesome. Im def not buyin a new oem clutch 500-700$ is out of the question.

Crank shaft dimensions are the same on the 700 and 800 and just about any 800 would fit. You might check Ebay for any cheap clutches or parts, just to get a good rear sheath to repair the one you have. Haven't used a Comet, but they've come up in the world from the old go cart days.. Good enough I guess that they are sold out here.Polaris ATV Clutch Complete

This 800 clutch show to have a smooth not grooved one way bearing, completely different from your 700 and the belt used is 3211113. Not sure if the 700 belt will work right, but give it a try first if you get the 800 clutch. When mixing clutches, you may have to experiment. That's something I didn't do,but I know others have..

Just keep a check on Ebay,Craigslist, etc. I haven't seen any place so far that just offers the inner or outer sheath separately. Could be some out there, but I haven't found em..

If you look around the outer clutch sheath it has holes drilled in it for a reason,to balance the clutch as a unit. Even if you are a good aluminum/magnesium welder,it may not hold(depending on the damage and welds) and probably will wobble.I wouldn't mess with a damaged clutch sheath.

Different design between the two one way bearings to try to interchange. Especially on the spacer that has the brass washer on your model. To make it work it'd have to the have the 800 spacer and two washers it uses,"IF" it would even work? Best to not to try to cross breed parts, just either try an 800 clutch OR find a used 700 for the rear sheath that you need so you could rebuild your original clutch.
