I am not sure but I thought ALL Scramblers 95 to curent came STOCK with the Fox gas charged shock. My 98 came with the shock and all the 99s and 00s that I have seen had the Fox shock. I think probably your dealer removed the shock and sold it, and left you with a plain oil shock. If you consider getting the new shock I would want to get the 00 model then you would get a extra 2 inches of travel, or try Hot Seat because they sell stock Fox Shocks..

Any other replys?

There is quite a difference from the Remote Reservoir Fox Racing Shox to the optional Fox Shocks and Struts that are available as an option from your dealer. The option shocks are certainly better, but they just are not racing shox. The name does not mean they are the same. The price is also not the same since the Racing Shox were $300+ ea. You won't appreciate them until you ride 'em.
I know Mike can offer some input.

All Scrambler/Sport rear shocks are equipped with Fox Shox, although I still don't know why the Scramblers get the reservoir and the Sports don't?
As for the front struts the rebuildable Fox struts are close to $260 per pair and offer some improvement, from what I've heard. I've aslo heard that the HPD adjustables, while almost 2X as much, are 2X better. I'm waiting for HPD to get some more adjustables in myself.

The rear fox shock with reservoir is now on all the new Scramblers including the new Scrambler 400 2x4 (old sport).
The front struts on the late '99 and later are Sachs and seem to be better than the macs. Seems they could use more travel though with all the weight. Still an awesome stock machine!!!
