Default '96 Scrambler 400

Not sure I want to know the answer to this, but I'm going to ask anyway. I just picked up a '96 Scrammy 400. It runs beautifully. Great power, 4WD works great. It looks like this thing has been sitting in storage for about 15 years, it's in such nice condition. The only thing I've noticed with it is that occasionally it backfires out of the carb. Should I be concerned? Thanks in advance.

Make sure the rubber carb anti vibration dampener hasn't deteriorated and missing from the gear case. They started installing these in 1994 to keep the carb vibration down and to keep it from dumping a load of fuel into the cylinder. Before the dampeners they would back fire and sometimes blow the exhaust head pipe off. If it's still in place could just need a simple carb cleaning, inspection of intake reeds for any splitting.Item #3. Ok, I will take a look at that. Also, I've noticed a bit of a slow throttle response on the machine. I have to feather the throttle from idle and then it'll kick in. Could this be related to the backfire?

If you haven't replaced the carb kit on this machine do this first. Could be the source of all your problems along with a good service. New plug, air filter if needed, change all fluids,etc.http://www.ebay.com/itm/CARB-REBUILD-KIT-POLARIS-SCRAMBLER-400-2X4-4X4-96-01-/230616661060?pt=Motors_ATV_Parts_Accessories&hash=item35b1d2fc44&vxp=mtrA good service manual will help on service/repairs.http://gh-ftp.com/ORV%20Manuals/Pola...0All%20Models/
