I am not yet an owner of this quad but
I like to study and know the potential
of a machine before I invest. I plan to
get the 2k model My question is this;

What is going to be my best setup to
get more low end kick out of this
machine. I know it will run 70mph
roughly but if I have to take some of
that away to get it to take off faster,
then that is now problem. I would like
names of companies and products (kits)
such as pipes, silencers, rads, reeds,
clutch, filters, jets and I might would
possibly change the carb. I do not wont
any major mods such as engine work,
just mainly bolt on. The Main thing is
I would like opinions and personal
setups and experiences w/ these
products...
Please share you knowledge
Your time is greatly appreciated

Roaddog,
Ok, first, the 500's are 4-strokes and don't use reeds and silencers. But anyway, go to www.highlifter.com and look at their Product Catalog. In there you'll find a High Performance Kit that consist of a Supertrapp IDS series headpipe and exhaust, K&N filter, outerwears, DynoJet Jet Kit, filter care kit, and some cool stickers. That'll get you a DRASTIC improvement. Then, call up AAEN or HPD and get a different primary and secondary clutch (ROLLER). Next, check out Adam Dowdens webpage for instructions on making it deep water ready. Go ahead and throw down for some better biting tires and beadlock wheels (with the extra power, YOU'LL NEED THE EXTRA BITE!!!) for the type of riding you mainly do.(LOOK AT THE BEARCLAWS, LOOK AT THE BEARCLAWS.. <hint hint> LOOK AT THE BEARCLAWS)
You'll be ready to go!!!... Short of a serious dune runner or drag strip queen, I don't forsee any "stock" machines seeing ANYTHING except for your tail light!!
These machines are awesome from the factory and get NOTHING BUT BETTER with the right MODS!!!

Couldn't have said it better myself. Try also to get some feedback from the owners of various modified 500's because their mods and riding styles will vary. Then try to follow the steps of the best sounding setup to meet your needs. Let the buyer beware : any company sales man would be a fool if he did not tell you what you wanted to hear about a product that you were inquiring about. Companies like HPD and Aaen ofcourse want you to buy their product but usually are more than happy to spend the time and help you choose the correct path to Performance Bliss. On the bright side since the polaris PVT systems allow the engine to operate in a narrower RPM range than most other quads there is less of a opportunity cost ( i.e. Sacrificing Torque for Horsepower or Accelaration for topspeed ) so the amount perfomance parts for these motors are reduced ( especialy for the 4 stroke ). My current setup includes the Aaen megaphone exhaust and 42 mm carb which has been claimed to Increase HP but Reduce torque. This is only true if you are using the stock clutch setup. With the Aaen roller Clutch kit i have cluch engagement and overall rpm ranges are higher than stock and meet the new torque curve created by these new mods. Fortunatly this was not trial and error for me because this setup was already tested by Aaen performance and i thought it would be good for me. Mismatched performance parts can acually reduce perfomance. Good Luck

Thanks for all the Help guys

I have read all of Adams page previous to my message but going to that page is great advice. How would I find out more about AAEN? Does he have a web page. I notice you fellows use his name a lot in other posts. The setup i had thought about was the pipe, supertrap, filter, clutch and jet kit. Thanks for all the help, I will keep you posted but it will be a while (maybe even christmas) before I purchase the quad. Thanks again

I talked to HPD yesterday and he couldn't give me a striaght answer on whether they had a carb or not for the 500. He said they tried a few and one was $600 and had 1hp more than another, etc... never saying what they sell. I was just calling for a catalog though anyway.

They said next month or so they should have a cam for the 500, but you would also have to get a forged piston too.

Aane carries the Mikuni 42 mm flatside for about 2 and change ( can't remember and the invoice is in my file cabinet ). But unless you plan to get a serious pipe and clutch kit i would just rejet the stock carb and call it a day. Besides it's way cheeper and the installation is not as wierd as with the Aaen version.

I spoke to D. Olson ( HPD ) a little while back and he mentioned some cams that would be great but the head design has some flaws.

I had some offers to port my head but i think i'm going to stick with the real Polaris performance companies ( Aaen, HPD and a couple others ) It will be worth the wait.

You can have your stock carb bored out by RCR for $60. Sounds like a fairly economical way to go. I wouldn't be so hung up on letting a Polaris specialist do my head work. I would look for somebody who has plenty of experience doing head work. Here are some of the companies I would trust:
1. Richard's Engine Developement http://www.mix-net.net/~red/
2. HPT http://www.hpt-sport.com/default.htm
I would also check with LRD, they don't have a website but they do Polaris work.
Scott.

C'mon, Has anyone really seen a bolt on mod powered scrambler 500 run 70 miles per hour? Honestly? Can you count on that speed everyday or is it a once in a blue moon 70? I hit 64mph downhill. The best it ever went and I cant get it there again. Bone stock.

Sorry to be sceptical but show me a performance shop that will promise 70 mph and I will call them. I hope someone has the #!

Quoted

"roughly 70mph"

Give or take a little; You choose
Frankly, It wouldnt bother me if it only run 60mph. My concern was getting the scrambler 500 to its top speed much quicker than the stock setup. Just wanting a bunch more torque, roosting power for the trails. No flames thrown here. Just trying to attain information.
