Default 2003 600 rearend

I just bought a 2003 600 and it stopped going even as i was giving it gas. the drive shaft is turning but the 4wheeler doesnt move, it makes a lot of grinding noise. if i put it in 4wd it will drive with the front only. what would cause this. Im new to this and I just bought it.

You can jack it up and in gear see if the rear prop shaft is spinning on the rear diff shaft. If it is, internal splines may be stripped and just needs the prop shaft or rear yoke replaced. Dirt Cheap Yamaha, Honda, Arctic Cat & Polaris OEM Parts & Accessories – Cycle Parts Warehouse

i can turn the drive shaft assembly but the actual shaft that goes into the rear end does not turn, the yoke is turning on the shaft coming out the rear end.

Then you could possibly have a ring and pinion problem, either stripped pinion shaft splines or internal damage in the rear diff itself. Dirt Cheap Yamaha, Honda, Arctic Cat & Polaris OEM Parts & Accessories – Cycle Parts Warehouse
