I got the 500 back together finally and did as the manual says to get oil pressure before I fire it. I cannot seem to get any oil pressure evan to the filter. It had pressure before I started this project and didn't touch anything related to the oil or coolant pump. How long should it take to get pressure? this is the first engine I've worked on with a dry sump. Thanks in advance.

All that blocking off the oil tank vent does is to allow more oil, less air for the pump to prime up quicker ,fill the oil filter, lubricate the top end and return to the tank quicker. Yes the engine has to be running for minute or so for this to happen. When you release the vice grips from the tank vent line you normally hear an air hiss from pressure build up in the tank. The pump is primed.
