Great that explains the black wire- I will go out and cut and plug all back in and try it.
I will post results..
I will also post more accurate results for the Coil testing.
I dont have a problem buying another CDI I just want to make sure that is it and not the coil, or stator.
OPT- thanks again- I hope that this thread will help others, as I sit on my comp. all evening searching for these types of posts from others to help me.

Pulled black wire still nothing.
Here are some pics of my test of the black and white on the CDI - both were closed circuits and beeped on my tester when I touched each to ground- I found that strange if the black wire kills the bike via kill switch.
White wire to ground

Black wire to ground

For those who need a late 2004 600/700 wiring diagram - see my Ignition Coil testing posts....
Here are some Stator testing results: (+- 15%)
y to y/r should be .31 - I had .4
y to the other y/r should be .29 - I had .4
y/r to y/r should be .29 - I had .5
orange to white should be .10 - I had .2
orange to ground should be open- mine was open
blue to green should be 190 - I had 178.7
blue to ground should be open - mine was open
I think my stator is good?
Just wondering about the CDI reuslts I had.
Thanks for the interest in helping...

Well the CDI results that I was concerned about proved to be the problem.
the black and white wire was a closed circuit when tested. I purchased what I was told was a known good CDI. tested the same to wires and it tested differently and not a closed internal circuit. the old DCI was shorted out inside just as OPT had said.
Now I could not run it long w/o antifrz and it was a fresh rebuild so now I finish putting it back together and see how she runs-
Thanks everyone for the help especially OPT....

Normally Kokusan is a good electrical system, had them on many of the Ktms also, but since you got it as a basket case anythings possible.Good luck with the new engine!

Hey i have a 700 twin and i started it up with bad fuel in it which was dumb it sputtered a bit and died so i cleaned the carb and put it back on and went to fire it up and got nothing, i then messed with it for a min and it didnt sound like it was firing at all checked the plugs for spark and had no spark. Took me a while of messing around with it before i found i tripped the etc switch when pulling the carb. I then set the ETC switch correctly and figured it would fire right back up But no dice does anyone know if trying to start it up with the ETC switched tripped would be enough to short the CDI its one of the old duccati CDI's I have checked the resistance on most everything and have a manual but it doesnt show me how to resistance test the cdi it just says to check it. any help would be greatly appreciated Thanks
