So I by it and start tearing it down. It does appear like the piston is new, and the cylinder is in very good shape. The piston size is stock, or 71.96mm. The cylinder is in very good shape as he said. The rings had 0.008" gap at the ends so they are very snug.

I put everything back together. I tried to start it and it did indeed backfire through the carb. Looking further I realized that the engine could be easily rotated by hand, virtually no compression. I am at a loss trying to understand why I have no compression. The rings and piston seem well matched to the clean bore. The crank seals should not have anything to do with compression??

I have not measured the compression, but you can turn the pulleys with almost no resistance. Also, when you put your finger over the plug hole there is NO compression resistance.

yet everything measured well??

Please help!

Thanks
I had the same issue hears what I did I went on Amazon and got a new carb and a starter package with new starter drive and solenoid and a new plug put it all in and then charging battery over night and came out and tried to start it took me a bit to adjust carb to where it was catching to want to firearm of course now the battery was almost dead so I put battery charger on and continue to try and wouldn't you know it fired up also check to make sure u have fluid in the radiator and no air bubbles happen when u trying to start and water pump if electric is working or it will overheat quickly I should probably say mine is a 350l trail boss you will kill yourself trying to pull start it until you get it going and have it all running mint then you will be able to pull start it if you have any other questions feel free to email me
I hope it helps and you get it going
